Andrew Barr, one of Hitachi’s leading global executives has joined HydraB Power as its new Chief Operating Officer, charged with accelerating development across the portfolio of companies at the forefront of the net zero transition.
With over 35 years in industry including the last 21 years at Hitachi under his belt, Andrew held significant roles as Group CEO for the Global Rail business and more recently as President of Hitachi EMEA, VP of Executive Officer of Hitachi Ltd.
Working closely with HydraB Executive Chairman Jo Bamford CBE, Andrew will split his time across the group of firms which includes world-leading zero-emission bus manufacturer Wrightbus.
“I am indebted to Hitachi for an incredible 21 years during which I achieved a huge amount, worked with some amazing people and led the business through an unprecedented period of growth,” he said. “I really felt that the time was right to seize a new, exciting opportunity – one that would see me wrap my arms around a business and develop the future.
“The portfolio of companies under the HydraB banner is perfectly poised to lead the net zero transition and I have been struck by the passion and enthusiasm within the team, each of whom is striving daily to make the ultimate difference to the future of our planet.”
Andrew, 53, leaves his role of President of EMEA, a region of 55,000 people, generating a turnover of €16 billion. Previously he was Group CEO for Hitachi Rail where he led the Global Mobility Business and instigated growth through new orders as well significant business acquisition including the Rail business of Thales. Before Hitachi, Andrew’s career included spells with the Strategic Rail Authority, Bombardier, Rail Operator GNER and London Underground Limited.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Hitachi and it is an incredible global company,” he explained. “But my job now is to focus on day-to-day delivery and inspire businesses that are much younger in their development and help them focus on the opportunities ahead.”
Andrew will be based at the company’s flagship Oxford headquarters, where headcount has grown from 20 to over 100 in the last two years.
